” Much press has been made about 2014 being the Ford Mustang’s 50th birthday. Celebrations have been planned across the United States with the biggest being held in conjunction at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Here at RK Motors Charlotte we decided to pay tribute to the Ford Mustang by not only sponsoring the Award of Excellence at the Mustang 50th Celebration at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but by also building this incredible 1967 Shelby GT500 tribute that was unveiled at the very same event. Not only was the Shelby built to pay homage to the Ford Mustang, but also built to take on the grueling 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour. Our Shelby tribute will travel from Charlotte to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, starting on June 7th. The tour, which covers seven states, acts as an endurance test for the brave that attempt every stop. The few that arrive at every stop are awarded the long hauler award and will forever be known for conquering the Power Tour.
So by now you might be asking yourself, why build a ’67 Shelby GT500 and not a ’64.5 Mustang? The truth is the ’67 Shelby GT500 is arguably the most recognizable and sought after Mustang of all time. Many builds have been performed using this historic ride as a base. Many tend to go the route of building an Eleanor tribute while others try to create a replica based on the original Shelby specs. However, we decided to create a ’67 GT500 that many here at RK are starting to call a “Shelby Sleeper”. You see, if you simply looked down the body and glanced in the interior you would never guess what was waiting underneath the hood. Instead of following the normal choice of a 428, we chose to go with a Jon Kaase built all-aluminum 527 cubic inch Boss Nine V8 that churns out a dyno-verified 800 horsepower on pump gas. Trust us, you have never seen a Shelby GT500 tribute like this before. ”
